RE: Three times as much

OK, I am 37... just purchased a 2005 fleetwood discovery for $150K... My wife is divorcing me and my choice to live in an RV has 3 parts. #1 I love RVing... There are plenty of upsides... no lawn mowing... not utilities etc. #2 There has never been a better time to live in a depreciating asset... see houses are not appreciating... may as well live in a depreciating asset that rocks...#3 The fact is that all Real Estate comes down... and eventually will go up again... at my age I want more good debt... the RV aint good debt but... get this... it allows me to get some more. My wife is taking half my stuff (assetts) eventually Real Estate will go up again... When that happens... Hopefully before that happens... I will own 4 more 4 plexes... see you can purchase a 4-plex as a primary residence... But the thing is you have to not own another primary residence. If I live in the RV... For a couple of years I can buy 4-plexes (now with a 10% down rather than a 5% down that would have worked in the past.) But the thing is you have live in it for 6 months or you have committed loan fraud. Not only that... the rate is one percent better than it is for an investor purchaser. This is sacrifice... Living in an RV I mean... but fuel prices and the economy where it is have created great opportunity if you just figure out how to take advantage of it.

RE: Jacks Broke... How do I get on my hitch?

Nope... they are up... I think I just stripped them... it is interesting as I can make them work I have found if I reach in there and the bar connecting both of the jacks that rotates from the motor to drive each of the jacks independently can be twisted in my hands and with the boost of twisting them that way I can make it lift. I need to get em fixed but camping world raped me last time so I have to find someone else.

RE: Another Camping World Service survey

I saw this post as I was getting ready to start my own that was titled Bent Over by camping world... Just bought a new Class A (Fleetwood Revolution 40 E) The previous owner changed the batteries as they had frozen. For some reason they would not recharge. Well... it was due to incorrect hook up. I took it into one place who had a long wait and then took it to CW on a Thursday... They said they could get it in on the following Monday. The coach would not start for them as the batteries were dead... (Thus the reason I took it in, told them all the batteries were dead) They could not start it so it sat and I received no call. I called them... they said come start it as it will not start. I drove 60 miles. Jumped it from my truck after they said they would not start it unless they were paid $140 per hour to sit out there with a truck for 2 hours and charge the batteries. I got it going. THey let it die again waiting for the tech to get back to work. ( he got sick a day or 2 after they were supposed to fix it) He gets back and fixes other coaches that got there after I did... maybe they were scheduled... I don't know as they never told me. I was in the parking lot a sunday night watching another guy get a new air conditioner cowling installed (I bet that guy loved the service.) Mentioned it on Monday when I called the corporate headquarters... They called the manager (I had been there 10 days at this point) he was nice... they fixed the coach the next day... and charged me $300 to hook up the batteries correctly (rape). Then they moved it back out to the parking lot. It was dead... they called over to the attatched RV dealership who brought over a golf cart with a HUGE battery and jumper cables... had it going in 2 minutes. (That pissed me off... where was that golf cart 10 days before when I drove 60 miles and spent 3 hours jumping the coach after they yelled at me as I was upset they did not just jump it themselves?) I got raped just about a week ago... Prior to this time they had done a decent job with a generator install in my 5ver. 2 trucks got air springs through them and had a 5ver hitch installed. Some minor things a couple of times but I went back... NEVER EVER AGAIN... if they had the last roll of RV safe toilet paper I would poop in the bushes and wipe with sagebrush...
This was for Utah... Funny in that the guy who told me he would not jump my coach was written up in a self published letter praising him in their magazine by someone else... actually influenced me to go there rather than Quality RV who at least had the decency to say..."we have a 2 week wait" instead of bending me over after making me wait almost that long.

RE: Turnpike Tolls

I had no idea about toll roads... drove a new RV from New York to DC to Utah... Paid about $240 in tolls pulling a 3 axel trailer. It sucked.

RE: Jacks Broke... How do I get on my hitch?

There is and I have not tried it however I... well you are probably correct... that should still work even with stripped gears as I think they are the gears hooking the motor to the landing gear... Ill try the manual crank tonite.

RE: tankless water heater yes or no

I think that the tankless heaters are gas or LP powered... not battery powered. I used one in Korea for years that was LP.

Jacks Broke... How do I get on my hitch?

OK guys... Where and how do I lift my 5ver since when I push the button to extend the jacks all I get is a clicking (gears must be stripped) I have an atwood motor in there and it runs but seems really loose and will not extend the landing gear to lift me onto the truck. Ideas?

RE: convenient RV park in Las Vegas?

I have a convention in JULY in Vegas at the MGM... I will be out of the RV all day each day but want to be close. I have a 42 foot class A so I need a pretty good size spot and a quick run over into the MGM. I do not think I will have a toad. I think I can run over from Ballys on the monorail but think I will have to run the genny all night every night and wonder if it is worth it to take my little house down from Utah or if I should just stay at the MGM for $150 per night. (I know I know... some of it is just having the RV and staying in it... Is the Circus Circus KOA close to the Monorail stop?

RE: What's a good size diesel engine?

Well... Lots of opinions... I am actually purchasing what I am due to the fact that it is rated to tow 15,000 lbs. Without that on it should do well and I have learned something myself from all of you comments... Thank you. My rig was dynoed at 435 HP on a C9. They turned it up back at the chassis plant. I think you can turn a lot of these up quite a way depending on the cooling. Side radiators Yeah!

RE: Towing a 30 to 38ft trailer with a 42 foot RV... Hard?

Thanks for all of your input... I think I will go for it. I have insurance in place that will cover as soon as I sign... then I will mail all out to the DMV and risk the ticket. Sounds uncommon.

RE: Towing a 30 to 38ft trailer with a 42 foot RV... Hard?

Hmmm I better check that... I know the guy who owned it towed a trailer that weighed 22,000 lbs right out the door...
But I want to check things... I think that is the least of my worries though... I think the big deal is can I make it work to move it from NY to Utah... In Utah the likely hood of you getting pulled over and ticketed for being over is LOW... But pulling it 2,000 miles across country could create issues... I just dont have any experience with that... And more... Has anyone ever pulled this long a trailer... can you even make turns?

RE: Towing a 30 to 38ft trailer with a 42 foot RV... Hard?

Ah ha... I have thought of that... In Utah 65 feet is max... that being said the things I wonder is am I OK to pull this home? It will have New York plates on it (as will the trailer) but I will be looking to register it in a certain Montana LLC as soon as I pick the thing up. In Utah the law for length costs about 75 bucks a year to get a permit to go longer... however I will have a Montana plate on it. This coach is rated to tow 15K lbs...

Towing a 30 to 38ft trailer with a 42 foot RV... Hard?

I am almost ready to get my first class A... I was gonna get a freightliner FL60 and a 45 foot toyhauler but I have kind of changed my plan and am picking up a 2005 Revolution 40e on friday. I need to haul the toys... how hard is it to pull a 10 or a 20 or a 30 foot trailer? I am thinking of getting a 30 to 35 footer. Let me know what your experience has been like with towing especially big trailers...
Thanks,
